Exactly. Unfortunately today, there are so many screenwriters that just create self-indulgent fantasies. Either that, or they're busy trying to give audiences "what they want" by means of pandering or the inclusion of low-brow tropes
Hollywood is so boring these days. Wokeness and cancel culture have destroyed comedy (not to get too political). Why can't anything be fun anymore?
To be engaged and feel requires effort. Most people don’t want to expend any effort in life.

It truly is a shame. What's even worse is that people seem to almost *want* to live in a hollow, bleak world. I can't certainly can't understand it.
