Honestly, Joan of Arc as a "proto-trans figure" is not a far leap. She was a cross-dresser, and this was used as evidence of her heretical beliefs. But you make a fair point: Joan's legacy as a French national hero shouldn't be eclipsed by something so banal.
Yeah, I can easily see how people--women, specifically--turned Joan into inspiration for cross-dressing or adopting more masculine attire. It's happened with other figures, both real and fictional, such as Mulan, who is often included in these sorts of discussions. Unfortunately, a lot of interesting stuff gets tossed out in favor of just talking about bits of fabric...
Very strange to see self-described "feminists" applauding women for dressing and acting like men. As if womanhood were something shameful or inadequate (which is a horrible thing to believe!)
Unfortunately, feminists don't know what they want anymore. Once it was to just be treated with respect. But even in the beginning, they were fragmented, each out for their own interests, and never really working towards anything unified. In the end, they confused independence for acting like a "pick-me" or, conversely, a parody of a very whiny man. If only they preached authenticity.
